David Aames takes all he has for granted; his wealth, his inherited publishing company, his good looks - his relationships. Especially his relationships. It catches up to him when a friend/sometimes sex-partner can't see their relationship the way he sees it. From that point, the movie takes a Lynchian twist that ultimately and literally pulls us into Aames' tortured psyche.Actors

Not what I expected by a fine movie anyways
An f’ed up remake of ‘Abre los ojos’, a good movie. See that one instead.
Not as smart as it wants to be
misses the bar, no net, splat. sorry cameron, you know i love you man.
"GAG" indeed. This movie sucked.
Another reviewer mentioned that this was Cruise’s attempt to act without his pretty face. Jesus . . . . what a terrible movie.
Beautiful in a disturbing way, Cruz is the only downfall
Mesmerising, provocative, thrilling, and funny. It’s a trip!
GAG …
What is it with Hollywood and remakes?
Fresh air
The story in Vanilla Sky is very different from the norm and that’s mainly why I enjoyed this movie. It is refreshing and Tom Cruise gives a surprisingly good performance.
A giant piece of Hollywood Vanity Project trash!
beautiful, touching and intelligent.
More style than substance
First of all, let it be said that I docked Vanilla Sky 1 point for being an almost shot-for-shot remake of "Open Your Eyes"…the Spanish language movie that came out a few years ago. Why bother? Oh yeah…to make money for Tom Cruise.
Secondly, this movie looks great. The effects and camerawork are cool. Everyone’s beautiful (even the "horribly disfigured" Tom Cruise kind of grows on you…). And the colors in the film are vivid and exciting.
Lastly, what exactly is the point of this film? Are we really supposed to believe that Tom Cruise’s character has gone through some kind of profound spiritual transformation? Or did it seem more like he couldn’t stand the sight of himself in the mirror so he offed himself and lived a fantasy life for 150 years until medical science improved to the point where it could fix up his face?
Personally, I think you’re better off renting Total Recall or Jacob’s Ladder, which are basically the same but way cooler.
I don’t enjoy movies with dramatic twists!
My score is low because I am biased against such movies. If you liked ‘The Game’ then you will probably enjoy this one. Though I knew there was a twist, I did not figure it out until it was revealed to me at the end. However, I found myself longing for the end of the movie so that I could just move on…
See at your own risk. This is not for everyone.
disturbing, but good.
a movie like none other. if you like AI, twilight zone, and all that other stuff, then this would be a good movie for you. tom cruise can pick out the good movies and it shows. good acting and impressive plot with twists and turns make for a culminating ending that can surprise you. at one point of the movie a woman shoulted out "stupid movie!" not for everyone, but i liked it.
grrr It’s a remake. It was good but I hate it when i’ve seen it already
Engrossing storyline. Well acted. Must see. No dull moments.
great film.
Kept you guessing right till the end.
A great cast and even Tom Cruise (who I normally can’t stand) was good, well acted and believable.
Cameron, Cruise, Take Me Away……………….
And that they did. I enjoyed the film, not immensely but enough to sit through the whole thing and realize in the end that consequences will screw you up for good. I learned alot from the film even if it was only a bit too far fetched at times. A thriller indeed, with a love story, vividly interwoven. Who could I follow or believe? Was I making this up myself? This movie will surprise you and wake you up. Coming from a woman’s point of view. Don’t we all wish that most assholes like David (Tom Cruise’s) character would get what they deserve after gaffing you off, and referring to you as their f##k buddy? I don’t think it needed to go this deep, but I think the intensity was necessary to capture the very essence of the film and the attention of the audience. I recommend this one to everyone. Enjoy, or try to get something out of it. It’s worth $6.50
last 20 minutes confussing but good ohter wise,, i liked the music
