good performances, but a bit dull.
"Makes you want to live by the sea."
I saw "The Shipping News’ with a friend basically because we couldn’t agree on any other film. I was interested to see it before hand because I had heard alot about the book.
It’s an enjoyable movie and I left the cinema feeling like I wanted to move to a small seaside town with oddball characters. However it isn’t very memorable and is very aware of being a film of a book.
Kevin Spacey plays a wimpy character that doesn’t really seem to come off as that believable. The best performances are deliviered by Julianne Moore as the single-mum love interest and Cate Blanchett who is as sexy as ever. It’s also funny seeing Hugh Grant’s flatmate from "Notting Hill" playing a normal person.
Overall, an enjoyable way to spend a rainy afternoon but it will soon be forgotten.
