    More exciting than the first

I hated the first one, this movie actually held my attention.

  3. tym

I love it!! WOW!! It was great. If you like the books you’ll love the movie!

  4. Loser

WAY too overated. Boring. Disappointing FX overall, but Gollum was great.
I don’t see how many people can give it 4.5 or 5 stars. I was quite bored through out, the only parts I looked forward to about half way through were Gollum/Smeagol and the last battle.

I was a little disappointed with the film, it didn’t have any of the heart or soul of the first one and the changes were just too many and for the worse from the book. the big 45 minute battle at the end was a let down as well. though i knew it was in fact 20 minutes because of the cuts to merry/pippin, i still expected something more.

The fighting in Gladiator was much better and more interesting, even if there was less.

Gollum though, was phenomenol. that would warrant the movie 5 stars if it weren’t for many let downs. The biggest thing that got to me was the editing. Nearly all the scene transitions were just awful, the cuts were horrible. it never seemed to flow. the movie felt like it was a bunch of scenes put together in almost any order.

there were some beautiful cuts though, just not enough. one great cut was when gandalf got sarumon out of Theoden. Or gollum speaking to smeagol.

The camera was work was odd and not as good as the first one, save for the scenes with gollum, where the constant movement really made gollum look like he was there. One thing really made me sick, those aerial shots rotating around aragorn, gimli and legolas. Way too repetitive and unintersting after the 15th time.

I don’t see how you guys can see that the effects were amazing. Did you not watch the wall expode? or the extremely obvoius blue screening on merry and pippin when on treebeard? or those big things at the gate of mordor that opened the door?

This movie was a lot darker than fellowship, which is good because that was the essence of the book, but i think we saw too much of aragorn, it became rather tiresome.

I would watch this film again, but only for gollum/smeagol. it is not a 5 star movie. i think that people were just to psyched (sp) about it and couldn’t bear the fact that the movie was worse than expected. That usually seems to be the reason.

I still think minority report is the best movie of the year, along with road to perdition. and big trouble the best comedy. but other than that, nothing else comes to mind.

    Hold your horses (again)
Overrated but still somewhat stunning and beautiful. Gollum adds what this trilogy needs "Nerve".

Not really a film, nothing actually happens, it’s just a lot of swinging swords and running orcs. Hopefully the final movie will tie up some loose ends.

thrilling, but could have been better. ents are awesome!
The second movie, much like the book itself, makes up for the slow pace of the first one. From beginning to end the film is , with Peter Jackson and his team trying hard to juggle the many sub-plots involved. However, we could definitely do without the romantic sub-plot. Jackson’s use of Aragorn as a regular Casanova ruins the pace of the film and strays completely from the storyline. Besides that though, one cant deny that this is a piece of work. The special effects, especially scenes of the hobbits riding Treebeard, are totally bitchin. The giant gopher/wolf creatures are also completely bitchified. We need more talking trees and giant, hybrid, bad-ass gopher dogs in more movies.

    even better than the first!
i’m really not into d&d stuff, but i have to say that THIS moview was fantastic. i could not help getting over how wonderful the special effects were and the scenery. sometimes i was watching it and just thinking about how far movie technology has come. this in itself made the movie amazing.

i honestly didn’t really like the first movie. that whole thing with the ring and the wierd dream like ‘vaccum’ thing got annoying after a while.

but the new movie was interesting, and that last battle was awesome. the only thing i didn’t really like was the talking tree part, but i heard that was part of the book, so what can you do! overall - outstanding!

    Loved it!
A little slow but definitely worthwhile; the cinematography is wonderful. Even though the story is moving along, it will be a long wait for the conclusion

  9. Sheets

First off, you have to see the first one to get the full effect…
I don’t usually give a 9 rating, but there are some really amazing things in this movie. The special effects are fantastic. But the special effects are nothing without the storyline. It was a very enjoyable movie. There was a lot of fighting, but it fits the story well and you will always root for the Hobbit.

  10. tposy

story, affects, were like part one far fetched but amazing

The Two Towers is more action-oriented than the first one, and the battles are your standard epic good vs. evil ones. The scenery is gorgeous but the rest is only good, not great. There’s only one interesting character, Golem, and things are more cheesy than in the first film. This may be due in part to the fact that The Two Towers was also a weaker book than The Fellowship of the Ring was.

    What a change from #1
I absolutely *hated* number one … and I must say I was very very very pleased with #2 - it was sah-weet!

  13. jikun

Gollum is flippin’ amazing! He deserves a best supporting actor nomination.

  14. bargen

great action! give me dialogue! =)
all in all, i thought it
    was an excellently made film
    by peter jackson,
altho one that did not flow
as well for me as the first?
probably due to the fact that
    the fellowship is now broken
and he had the complex task
    of jumping from one storyline
    to the next?

in this way, the movie was
choppy and even slow at times,
which i didn’t feel with the
    first installment.
what i’m really missing as i
did with the first is the
    lack of character development.
    i guess it’s virtually impossible
    to include all that wonderful
(often laugh out loud funny /
    touching) dialogue by tolkien
    in the book.
gimli is made into a character
    more for comedic relief
(which one never got from reading
    the book–far from it) and
    one never really *feels* how
dreadfully awful the ring is now
    for frodo to bear.
i think he shows you toward
the end, but one really *feels*
    it in the book,
    and panics for frodo’s life
    and well being.

i’m glad that he showed more
    of the camaderie between
    legolas and gimli, who were
not the best of friends at
first. there is no love lost between
the two races, but it is heartening
to see how much they respect
    and care for one another
    (and banter!) by the end.

    ironically, the character that
    received the *most* development
was golem. very well done, i’d
say. in stark contrast to treebeard and
the ents–was it possible to bring
these forest guardians to life without
    them looking…silly??
    i don’t know.
i can’t think of any other way
    he could have presented them,
    however??

m mentioned that he was disappointed
in the lack of *magic* in the film.
he had expected gandalf to arrive
and smite the evil forces down
    with his spells.
    but tolkien’s world was never
like the d&d realms that we know.
the latter was based and expanded
    upon from the first?

    the battle scenes were awesome.
    really stirred me emotionally.
and the film did a good job of
    creating that mounting dread one
feels as we enter the latter half
of the story–as frodo draws nearer
to evil and his task at hand.

i plan on seeing the film again
    in the theatre. =)

As a movie.. it was good but if you’re a JRR fan
you might have a different view. I don’t know many people that did NOT read the books that are interested in seeing this movie. By the 3rd one I think this movie is going to lose rather than gain more fans. This movie has frightening scenes and i’m amazed at how many kids were in the theater. WHAT ARE PARENTS THINKING!!! WAIT UNTIL YOU GET A BABYSITTER TO GO TO THIS STUFF!!

‘The Two Towers’ is not quite, but almost better than ‘Fellowship Of The Ring’.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I give "The Fellowship Of The Ring" a 10 and "The Two Towers", a 9.5.

  17. daraa

Intense, amazing a must see for fans

Exciting Film and a decent adaptation…
…considering the time/resources constraints. Fans of the books might quibble over some of the changes …and I have a few (see below)…but overall it’s a great film adaptation. Also, you must keep in mind that this is the middle film and so being doesn’t waste time explaining the first one or attaching a denouement…these are accomplished in the first and (hopefully) the last films.
The CG effects with Gollum were outstanding…not perfect of course, but definitely raised the bar (contrast Jar Jar—whoa baby, we’ve come a long way) And if you love battle/action scenes, helm’s deep is da bomb! (hahahaha….I had to say that)
Anyway, as for my quibbles….I can (sort of) take the addition of the Arwen/Aragorn love story, (although it’s a bit TOO hollywood that he "dies" and she enters his dreams/saves him???? I can’t really discern what the heck happens here) but I have to ask, WHY WHY WHY did Jackson make Treebeard seem so ignorant and unimportant?? He is the oldest living creature in middle earth and wise beyond any other, so his treatment in the film was a big disappointment to me. Also, Faramir’s taking the hobbits back to Gondor….utter film fabrication. But the film can never be as good as the book….and the film stands on it’s own as a great adaptation. If you loved the first one, I encourage you to read the books…they are rich beyond belief. Like me, you will be amazed not only at Tolkien, but Peter Jackson for bringing it to life on screen. It’s quite an accomplishment!

  19. pitts

    better than 1st
great, but screwed up at end with faramir almost taking the ring to gondor, and frodo offering the nazgul the ring.

  20. char

Absolute perfection, in every conceivable way.

  21. Smets

Great movie, it departed from the book more than the 1st film.

An Epic Masterpiece. Two Hairy Hobbit Feet Way Up!
Uber-Hobbit Peter Jackson & Crew did it again. When I saw the first movie I believed that "Fellowship" would be hard to top, but "Two Towers" is indeed even better than Jackson’s adaptation of the first installment of Tolkien’s epic masterpiece.

This is a movie that makes heavy use of CGI, but it’s all to serve the story, and it’s extremely well done. If they had had to do the enormous battle scenes simply with extras, "Two Towers" would have turned into the most expensive movie of all time.

Instead, some smart piece of software "stood in" for an army of Orcs, and I dare you to tell the difference.

And then, of course, there’s Gollum: I’ve never seen a CGI creature as life-like as this one.

But all the CGI wizardry in the world wouldn’t do any good, if the story were poorly told. Relax, folks: the story-telling is also extremely well done and as true to the book as a silver screen adaptation can be.

Go, see it not just once, but over and over again. I will.

  25. teh

Enough said. And for god’s sake it’s part 2 of 3.
Why not a ten? There’s maybe 3 per lifetime that make a 10. I’m many years yet from kicking the bucket so I reserve the right to call a movie a 10 when I’m good and ready to die.
