    went too slow
OK i don’t know if it was the raving reviews that I read or just the fact that I expected too much, but this movie just didn’t live up to my expectations. It really was OK and i cannot think of what exactly should have been left out for pacing, it just didn’t proceed well enough for me. PLUS there was no end climax of who he was…i wanted something really cool. The end didn’t seem worth the wait.

The casting of Stiles was just bad!!!

Kind of like the first ‘Mission: Impossible’, but with more action.

Great car chase…best since French Connection. Lame acting by Damon though.

  6. Curtis

lots of stuff to watch and plot to follow, and a coolly confident secret agent.

Loved the book, hated the movie!
Where Matt Damon is eye candy, Franka Potente is a poke in the eye. There wasn’t even a spark of passion between their characters. I was looking forward to this remake…the TV mini-series was better.

four days since I’ve seen it and I can barely remember it.
Perhaps that’s the ultimate measuring stick of a movie, whether you can really recall the details just days after seeing it.

Sorry, Matt. There was no real tension. No real edge of your seat action. Another rather mediocre review for a rather mediocre movie.

    no "Go" here
first there was "Swingers", then "Go", and now the money people, Hollywood, and guess what? NO GO

Entertaining / Seems to intentionally lack depth
I was entertained by this movie. "The Bourne Identity" is shot at visually stimulating locations. These serve as the back drop for well done fight and chase scenes. I thought it was a solid action thriller that seemed to intentionally lack depth of character and story. It does not try to be a love story or expand it’s plots scope too wide. It simply tells the story of the main character in a way that allows you to empathize with him.

The flip side to the movies intentional lack of depth, is that it leaves the picture no chance of getting any sort of message or captivating story across.

    kick ass movie
not everyone in our crew that went to the theater liked it, but nz is just wrong. this movie kicks ass, hence the summary.

it’s a good review when you can use the word "hence".

Excellent, Believable Fight Scenes, Fast Paced GREAT!!
You probably can’t tell but I think this movie is excellent!! No gratuitous nudity, No gratuitous profanity, it did of course have it’s gratuitous violence!!

The fight scenes were realistic. You didn’t see the good guy get his butt kicked for 10 minutes and then suddenly jump up and win the fight.

It was fast paced, incredible action and just a great movie.

Nothing like the book, but still entertaining.

    Just another Good Thriller
    Good Movie
I wasn’t sure about seeing this because of Matt Damon, but it was very good.
Sort of like a real life 007
Good shot of Paris, and lots of action.
Acting was a little lame at times, but overall, I would defintely reccomend it.

    Exciting, non-stop action
I have tried to read books by Ludlum but was always seriously disappointed; the quality just wasn’t there. But this film actually makes what I have heard described as his best book an enjoyable movie experience. I was as surprised as I always am when a Stephen King novel turns out to be a good movie. Fast paced, continuously entertaining film with no stops for breathers. Storyline holds together very well. Good film. See it.

    Highly entertaining.
I was torn between an 7 and 8, but I’ve seen so much crap lately that this one made it up to an 8. Definitely the best movie so far this summer.

  19. kara3

MUCH better than the TV movie and as good as the book

Didn’t read the book.. wasn’t blown away by the movie.
One technical complaint, the sound in our theater was incredibly loud, even for my tolerant ears; but, beyond that, it was just poor. The sound people on this movie should be fired.

Sssssssolid (to coin a phrase from UC Brother)
I like this movie a lot. I read the book and note that author Ludlum was exec. producer. I thot it stayed pretty true.

What I liked was the Damon character’s creativity, the slowly developing relationship between him and the girl, the lack of sex (it made the movie more real) and the chase scene (really good).

But how come Damon always comes out cleanly shaven??

    The Bourne Identity?…. NOT!
I READ the whole book. I just WATCHED the WHOLE movie - ugh. I’m in a word… beside myself. I’m sorry, but there is absolutely NO connection between the book and the movie…. wait… ok, the first 30 seconds were the same. I can’t even put into words how disappointed I am. I feel like I was scammed.

I’ve actually been looking forward to seeing this movie for a long time. The story has been COMPLETELY rewritten (mercilessly gutted is a better description). The movie characters (all of them) are flat, and the story is plain and dumb. The book was intelligent, suspenseful, and all around well-written. It was an awesome story, and I couldn’t put it down. Why didn’t they just give the movie a different title? After all, it wasn’t the same story - it would have done us all a big favor. What were they thinking?

Anyone that thinks this is a good take off from the book, either didn’t stay for the whole movie, or didn’t read past the first page of the book.

Almost always, the book is better than the movie, this is a given. But in this case, you can’t even compare the two, they AREN’T the same story. Unfortunately, the title and the main character’s name remained unchanged.

All I can say is, they shouldn’t have bothered.

    pretty decent.

Characters are flat, but movie was fun. Spy movie w/o computer special effects
If you like Matt Damon, this is a great movie. Rather, if you love Matt Damon…
It’s a fun spy movie, but does remain flat throughout. He’s not believable as a trained killer spy. oh well. they tried. and it was a fun movie, with those fake computer special effects.

    Excellent and Captivating….
This movie had a different feel than the usual Hollywood cookie-cutter action films. Matt Damon plays a character that wakes up in a world where he can kick everyone’s ass and has a sense of danger that a Jedi would admire. Unfortunately, he has no idea who he is. Matt does a good job getting you to feel for his dilemma even though his original character may have had questionable morals. It’s the standard, "I don’t like who I was even though I don’t remember" story. Still, he makes a good action hero. It’s hard to put my finger on exactly why, but this movie is really good. Maybe it’s the lack of the cheesy background score during most scenes, or the edgy cinematography, or Doug Liman’s direction. This movie is good and you should go see it.
