When the DEA shut down its dummy corporation operation codenamed SWORDFISH in 1986, they had generated $400 million which they let sit around; fifteen years of compound interest has swelled it to $9.5 billion. A covert counter-terrorist unit called Black Cell, headed by the duplicitious and suave Gabriel Shear, wants the money to help finance their raise-the-stakes vengeance war against international terrorism, but it's all locked away behind super-encryption. He brings in convicted hacker Stanley Jobson, who only wants to see his daughter Holly again but can't afford the legal fees, to slice into the government mainframes and get the money.Actors

Halle’s Berries: 4 points. Tally it up and we have… 4.5 - we’ll round up.
Good movie, worth seeing
Should have reduced the explosions and guns and increased the suspense.
"Travolta revolting!"
This film is sooo silly. It’s every other action film you’ve seen put into one. And that’s not a compliment. Travolta is so over the top as the bad guy that it’s sad. "Watch out I’m a psycho!’
A good movie for couples who like to smooch during films.
This has every good thing about movies. Jackman (X-Men) and Travolta are superb
Has the, Hell yeah factor with extra helpings.
Great cast, good story and amazing special effects. Found myself siting bolt up-right, attached the the screen several times.
One Of John T’s best films in a while.
Started out good, but just went downhill form there
The opening scene was fantastic - great was to start it out. However, it also presented a huge hole for the movie. Travolta talks about Hollywood being crap because it’s unrealistic. Guess he just qualified the movie itself as crap. What’d we learn here? 1) That 128-bit encryption can’t be cracked by millions of man-hours of computing, it can be cracked in just under 60 seconds, provided you’ve got a girl on you and a gun to your head. 2) That the best hackers in the world just "Worm Assembly Toolkit v1.1" for writing their worms. 3) That the best hacker in the world is a) a tanned hunk, not some geek, b) capable of profoundly stupid thought and displays little or no logical thinking. Completely out of character.
I have to give the movie props for getting the buzzwords right and somewhat convincing. They did some research. It was interesting that the assassinated hacker’s last name was "Torvalds" - there’s another "hacker" by the same name. Perhaps a corporate message?
In the end, if you’re willing to shut off your brain and absorb a movie of average entertainment value, and that only because of fast cars, cool guns, pretty girls, and big explosions, then you might like it. If you’re technically savvy at all, be prepared to laugh out loud at this one.
Cute men, fast cars, big guns
The opening sequence is captivating although the action and the plotline seem to trail at the end.
I can get over seeing Halle Berry’s perfect breasts for 10 seconds in exchange for seeing Hugh Jackman in tight shirts. Not to mention John Travolta as the mysterious bad guy…good or bad he’s still sexy.
It doesn’t have to just be a guy movie. Women like men, cars, and explosions just as much…as long as the men are hot, the cars are fast, and the explosions are big. This is one case where bigger is better.
A riveting and suspensful, slam-bang, action thriller! John Travolta is the man!
The stuff you’ll see in ‘Swordfish’, is what Summer blockbusters are made of!
not bad not bad
It was a fun movie to watch. John plays a good bad guy.
Halle Berry…….Oh my GOD.
Need I say more about this movie?
Nope.
Two words…. Halle Berry
What can I say…. Halle Berry is one heckuva piece of art ! Oh… right…. the movie…. sorry, got a little off track
When I heard this movie was directed by the director of The Matrix and the director of Gone In 60 Seconds, I definitely wanted to see it ! The beginning of the movie definitely had The Matrix look and was really cool to watch ! The rest of the movie was all Gone In 60 Seconds with car chases and that cool scene where Travolta shoots standing up in the convertible. Hugh Jackman looks pretty different outside of his Wolverine X-men outfit (as a matter of fact, so does Halle Berry out of her Storm outfit…. and any other outfit she wants to be out of
). The special effects, the car chases and the Halle Berry scene make it worth the money to see.
Tony says "Guns and bombs are good!"
It is straight up action, with a wanna-be Usual Suspects twist.
Plusses- Strong opening, Guns, human ball bearing bombs, wicked cinematogrpahy (limited), John Travolta, sexy babes, naked ladies.
Minuses- Ending not well executed, falls off a bit as the movie goes on, fake hacking hollywood crap.
Tony says "If you dig guns, crime, cyber-glitz, and chicks, then this is your time to shine. If you don’t like that, then gop rent Stuart Little ya pansy!"
Check your brain at the door and you’ll have fun
A fun ride.
action packed
Definitely a guy flick…
Explosions, fast cars and Halle Berry’s boobies. What more can a guy want? As for the women, you can check out Hugh Jackman. Unfortunately he doesn’t reveal as much as Halle.
It had promise, but nose-dived after the first 15 minutes…
I was ready to check my brain at the door for this one. The opening sequence gave me hope, and I was ready to sit back and enjoy the show. It was odd, at moments the movie entertained, but would then just as easily disappoint. In the end, disappointment won out.
The much talked about Halle Barry scene is not worth the price of admission. Wait for it on video, or search for it on Google…
I love this site! Where else can one evaluate this movie based on the opinion of a 13 year-old male (who gave this movie a 10), and a 31 year-old male (me) who gave it a 4!
