just alright.
i know that everyone liked the movie, though i did not find it as spectaculer as everyone else. the acting was good, as far as acting could go, though i just never felt as connected to a ‘horse’ and the characters as everyone else. seemed kind of long, too, with an abrupt ending. maybe i have seen too many movies, but it seemed like ‘the natural’ but with a racehorse. also, i felt like hollywood was trying to manipulate with your emotions, when things simply seemed too formulized. all these ingredients of the underdog have been seen before.
Don’t listen to my brother….
It is true, there is a lot of Hollywood spin on this movie. It did feel formulatic at times, but so what? It worked for me and spurred some emotions. If you are looking for something other than the typical summer lackluster, Bad Boys, T3, Tomb Raider, et all. - this may work for you.
A note about my brother. He owns 700 DVD’s he bought in China for $1.00 each. His judgement may be little skewed.
Well done. But very few people were in the theatre. Their loss.
Tobey Maguire is brilliant as Johnny "Red" Pollard.
This movie was great!!
I didn’t know what to think of this movie and the trailer certainly didn’t entice me. I thought it was just going to be the long haul to one big race. I was sooo pleasantly surprised. Whether you are into horses or not, this movie has a little something for everyone. I loved the historical context and how they outlined the stories of each character before they were brought together by a horse named Seabiscuit. This is an awesome movie…the under-dog, feel-good movie of the summer that made me feel like I had run and won the races myself! Great performances by all and great cinematography. You really feel what it is like to race. I rarely rate movies this high (as you can check through my reviews it takes a lot to impress me) but this movie is really a great one! Check it out!
