Pure garbage.
This one’s just for blowhard film students and snobby Hollywood critics.
To me, it was just boring junk. How this got billed as anything to do with "comedy" completely escapes me.
Probably would have been good if I didn’t fall asleep thru it.
May not be for everyone. I enjoyed the accurate
depiction of life between the classes "upstirs/downstairs". Altman does a wonderful job unfolding the story and characters.
Not Altman’s best, but it’s fun to follow all the characters
Worth seeing

Better pay attention or you’ll get lost
God bless Robert Altman. Too often these days, we are not required to think. When you watch a movie like this, in which there are 26 lead characters and nearly as many storylines to follow, there’s nothing you can do but pay attention–a rare treat. The performances in "Gosford Park" are amazing, and it’s easily the best ensemble cast I’ve ever seen. Maggie Smith is hilarious as the snobbish Countess of Trentham ("Oh stop, don’t encourage him"), Helen Mirren is sly as the maid Mrs. Wilson ("I’m better than good, I’m the best"), Bob Balaban is blissfully ignorant as the Hollywood director Morris Weissman (whose idea for the next "Charlie Chan" movie becomes the basis of the plot in "Gosford Park"), Ryan Phillippe is mysterious as the "Scottish" Henry Denton (is he or isn’t he Mr. Weissman’s valet?), Kelly Macdonald is affectionate as the maid Mary Macreachran ("You didn’t do it, you couldn’t have"), Emily Watson is natural as the head housemaid Elsie ("Carpe diem, seize the day"), Clive Owen is great as the valet Robert Parks ("I never said I was an orphan, I said I grew up in an orphanage"), Kristin Scott Thomas is unsympathetic as Lady Sylvia ("Well I know you’re interested in money, and fiddling with your guns, but I admit it, when it comes to anything else, I’m stumped"), and the rest of the cast is spectacular as well. The plot boasts a very nice twist ending, and this is one of the few films that is best when watched more than once. Believe me, you’ll need to see it that many times just to catch half the details.
BORING "Jane Austin"- type flick
Enjoyable for several reasons
Gosford park was a bit funny, but what I most enjoyed was following all the characters.
Agatha Christie, and……
this seems to be Robert Altmans salute to the English mystery writer, Agatha Christie. it’s got wit, sharp dialogue, and well studied characters. Mr. Altman has made one of his best movies in recent years. worthy of anyones’ attention, anyone with taste, i should say!
I differ with the other reviewers
BUT, you have to understand and enjoy Altman
Slow, uninvolving, pretentious and over-rated. Blecchh!
2hrs 35 mins, nohting cool till last 20 mins, first hour half boring
