Long before humans appeared on the planet, dinosaurs ruled the earth. On a little off-coast island, a clan of lemurs finds a dinosaur egg, hatching. Since there are no parents, the lemurs take care of the newborn, Aladar. Years later, a medium meteor goes down close to the island and the shockwave forces its inhabitants to flee to the continent. There, Aladar and his family meet other dinosaurs for the first time as well as real dangers. The destruction caused by the meteor here has also forced a herd of different herbivores to move to a remote valley that can provide food and protection against the carnivorous predators following after. Since Aladar grew up with a different understanding of the ways of the world, his way of helping others first isn't accepted within the herd, but soon it is proven that reason may be better than panic.Actors

Don’t watch it unless you’ve got a kid who wants to see it.
Good movie. I liked the trailer for it more
It was so cute! I loved the little monkey things!
It would have been way better if the Dino’s didnt talk.
Good CGI animation but typical Disney plot.
the movie wasnt much, but the graphics were excellent
Coulda, Woulda, Shouda
Did you like The Lion King? Or The Little Mermaid? Or basically any Disney flick? Then you’ll like Dinosaur as well.
Considering this is an older review, and that it would rehash most Disney reviews in general, I’ll keep it short, sweet and to the point. This is a Disney feture-length animated film. Those 5 words are synonymous with SUCCESS, both fiscally and critically. Dinosaur is no different.
I have one main aspect to praise, and one to criticize.
The Good: the lush, beautiful and ground-breaking computer animation. Whereas both Toy Story films capitalized on this technology, the toys are more cartoonish than dinosaurs. While Toy Story 2 made progress towards realism, Dinosaur moves forward by leaps and bounds. The dinosaurs will have you Ooohing and Aaahing throughout the film. The scenery is beautiful, vast and believable. Dinosaur will stand the test of time as one of the better visual Dinosaur films next to Jurassic Park.
The reason I said it would stand as the best "next to Jurassic Park" is because of the voices in the film. This is "The Bad." All Disney films feature voices, so why should Dinosaur be different? Well, let’s just say I have more trouble listening to Dinosaurs speak in cutesy voices than I do with cartoony looking lions. Better yet, the directors opt to mix in some dinosaur roars. So a dino will speak a little bit in a kid-friendly voice, then let out a ferocious yawp.
Don’t get me wrong, the voices aren’t bad. They just represent Disney’s ever-present mindset to make money and invite all audiences to see a film. This film could have been a 4 STAR CLASSIC had it been a true dino film — no voices, just actions. At parts of the film, I tried to imagine the voices not being present. It made my experience even better. Dinosaurs don’t lead complex lives. The film is simple enough that the kiddies can see how the dinos act and roar and get what is going on. But the Disney cash cow honchos seem to have thought otherwise.
In the end, Dinosaur is a solid movie experience. But it also represents another classic movie trend: the missed opportunity.
Boring and ugly. ‘Nuff said.
Great for kids! Not too great for adults - boring, actually.
This is a for-kids movie. Cute, engaging animation with pathos, suspense and heroics. Effects were, of course, great and new, but got old after a while. From an adult’ view, the story line was like other dinosaur cartoon movies. The effects don’t make up for a tired, boring plot.
Great plot and amazing effects! Should be rated PG-13 though…
Wow.
Let’s see… where do I begin? Oh yeah. Disney has succeeded in placing you very closely (and realistically) to these ancient, almost mythical creatures. Roughly similar to the "Lion King" in plot, "The Dinosaur" makes it very easy to get lost in the imaginary world Disney creates for you. Who would have thought stepping back in time a million years or so could seem even remotely real? And the animation quality and special effects are simply amazing! Toy Story was nice… but this is just plain awesome. There came a point I had to remind myself it was just an animation and did not look real. Thanks Disney, for sucking me in hook, line, and sinker.
The girlfriend cried at certain parts, which is totally unlike her. I found it hard to contain myself as well. What a moving, involvable family story. Call it impulsive storytelling, but Disney has produced yet another sad yet joyful masterpiece. Of course a youngster probably wouldn’t notice the little intricacies of the film, much like a fine dinner wine- they’d be sure to remember the little dinosaurs with the big teeth, however.
"The Dinosaur" covers quite a realistic depiction of life and death and even includes a few insinuating, graphically bold and questionably violent scenes I would find inappropriate for a four year old. Like many of the new-age "CG" or computer animations, I found it loosely written for an older audience than what it was rated for. I’m fairly conservative on that matter so it’s possible you would find it completely appropriate for your youngster. I would strongly suggest if you have not seen "The Lion King", you should preview the "The Dinosaur" first before sending the kids off to see it. They might have nightmares about T-Rex under their bed for years. In any case, be sure they know it’s just a movie, and not real.
You, however, might really enjoy the film. I did! It was grrrrrreat! *smile* A refreshing break from the complexity and ruggors of daily life films. It’s fun to escape every once in a while.
Simply Amazing!
A few years ago, a director’s vision and imagination brought to life dinosaurs on the movie screen. These were the most realistic dinosaurs ever captured on the screen with fluid movements created by computers. The movie was ‘Jurassic Park’ and it opened the door to computer graphics used in the movies.
Now, in the year 2000 we are presented with Disney’s ‘Dinosaur’. An amazing depiction of the lives of dinosaurs in the Mesozoic era. Which was respectively the combination of the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretecaous periods. Dinosaurs were the most dominant of species in the Mesozoic era, naturally evolving into a diverse species in the Jurassic period (as shown in Jurassic Park).
‘Dinosaur’ revolves around the life of an orphaned ‘Iguanodon’ dinosaur who is raised by a family of Lemurs. Which are a species of monkeys. The dinosaur, Aladar was saved from death by fate and therefore commits himself to his family and other dinosaurs around him.
Combining amazing computer animation and digitally-enhanced live action backgrounds — ‘Dinosaur’ will take your breath away!
