Storyline
Hollywood, today: Bobby Bowfinger, a run-down actor-producer-director, is reading a script which a friend has written. Completely convinced of its quality, he decides to take a last shot at fame and fortune. But the script is not that easy to sell, and a famous producer promises him to do it, but there is one condition: Kit Ramsey, Hollywood's number one star, has to be in it. So, Bobby tries his luck with Kit - who says no - and then decides to shoot the film himself. Together with the cheapest team available in Southern California, an aspiring beauty from Ohio, a diva who is just a little over the hill, a key-holding gofer from a major studio and a goon hired away from burger-flipping, Bobby sets out to shoot the science-fiction-film starring Kit Ramsey - who does not even know he's being filmed.

    Had its moments
Not the best Steve Martin fare, but probably the best stuff in a while. Heather "Damn!" Graham provides a compelling reason to watch as always.

Crappy, but cute. Good for some laughs.

conflicted; can’t say I liked it, but still has some pretty funny moments

    Worst movie of the year
Sorry to say, but this movie sucked. The acting, writing, and directing were all nto only horrible, but plain stupid. DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE!!!

Bowfinger is a laugh a minute.
Bowfinger is a movie that will have you smiling all the way through. Steve Marting plays a producer who believes he has a great script with ‘Chubby Rain’ but he dosen’t have any connections so he decides to put Eddie Murphy (a hot action star) in his movie, unknown to Eddie, and this sets up some hilarous moments. This movie is a great movie if you want to being rolling in the aisle. Do yourself a favor and rent it on a night you are feeling low, it will cheer you up right away.

    Extremely stupid

Could they have phoned this one in from further away?
The filmmakers here hardly even *tried* to make this movie. They had all the talent, but just threw it away.

I LOVE Steve Martin. Roxanne and LA Story are two of my favorite movies of all time.

Unfortunately, this particular movie hearkens more to Mixed Nuts or Dirty Rotten Scoundrels than it does to either of the aforementioned classics.

Eddie Murphy does a good job with the drivel he’s given. Steve Martin works like a madman trying to make his lame duck script work. Everybody else is just kind of there, standing around. Terence Stamp phones in his bad guy riffs from somewhere near Alpha Centauri.

If only they’d have had Heather Graham take that top off *facing* the camera, they might’ve made a 6 or 7. As it is, Murphy grabs them 3.5 points, and they get another half point for having the balls to make a Hollywood movie that parodies Scientology.

I almost gave them a point for the amusing bad-kung-fu-movie sequence at the end, but it wasn’t all *that* funny.

    Nice movie
Could you imagine making amovie without the star knowing he was in it. Quite funny.

For the price of a rental, this was actually pretty entertaining.
Maybe it’s because I expect so little from Steve Martin or Eddie Murphy now except for a few character gags that I found this movie mildly entertaining. I did laugh in spots and Heather Graham as a trashy ‘ho was pretty fun to watch. And the final scene with the ninjas…

Yea, ok, I admit it, I laughed. It was worth the rental price as well as the money spent buying some peperoni pizza and side dishes to eat with the movie. So maybe I was in a better mood because the food was tasty. In any case it was fun to watch with friends who also had equally low expectations.

Better than Eddie’s last few but still waiting for Steve to pull one out!

I thought with Eddie and Steve it would have to be funny, Wrong
I waited to see this on video, becuase i heard it was bad, it was.

It must have been hard work to make a bad movie with Eddie Murphy and Steve Martin. But they did it.

  15. loklok

I excepted so much more out of this movie

  16. Helen

Could have used a little more Eddie…little less Steve

Eddie Murphy? Steve Martin? Must be funny, right? WRONG!
This movie was so weak it makes me sick. Two of the greatest comedians of our time — and I laughed about two times.

There is one funny scene in this entire movie, and, within the group of people I saw the movie with, I think I was the ONLY one who even thought a single scene funny.

    Very sad. Save your money.
