Storyline
Ron Burgundy (Ferrell) is the top-rated anchorman in San Diego in the '70s. When feminism marches into the newsroom in the form of ambitious newswoman Veronica Corningstone (Applegate), Ron is willing to play along at first-as long as Veronica stays in her place, covering cat fashion shows, cooking, and other "female" interests. But when Veronica refuses to settle for being eye candy and steps behind the news desk, it's more than a battle between two perfectly coiffed anchor-persons... it's war.

Not as funny as I thought it would be.
Some of Will Ferrell’s misogynistic comedy bits are getting a bit old after all the Saturday Night Live shows and his other movies. Some rainy afternoon this will give you a few laughs. Steve Carell (from the Daily Show) is actually funnier. The acappella version of Starlight Express’ "Afternoon Delight" is pretty good, but when the outtakes (kinda lame) were through and the credits rolled I thought it was just so so.

    delightfully stupid and infantile
Anchorman accomplishes exactly what it set out to do - a humorous take on the machismo attitudes of the 1970s as well as poking fun at the culture and trends of the era. Will Farrell and the rest of the cast, including fellow SNL alum David Koechner, Paul Rudd, the Daily Show’s Steve Correll, and Christina Applegate, play off one another with one low brow joke after another, and the film is overflowing with celebrity cameos (Tim Robbins makes a great appearance as a pipe sucking, afro donning newscaster for public television). The movie is defintely targetted towards anyone who appreciates a good fart joke, but the spontaneity of the films humor could cause anyone to utter a chuckle no matter how hard its guiltfully held back. For full enjoyment, pay close attention to Correll who shines as the functionally retarded weatherman.
