This movie cracked me up!
Stupid
….eh, there are plenty worse movies
It’s cute, but I didn’t like all the comments about sex
Really dumb but can be funny at some points.
nasty. see the original with Peter Cook and Dudley Moore.
i liked it. cheesy but okay.
Interesting
This movie is interesting and pretty funny at times. It’s not great, but it’s worth seeing.
Harold Ramis almost hits another homer. But it’s caught at the warning track.
Not too bad, and yes Ms. Hurley is a hottie. The flick thoughtfully tarts her up for an hour and a half, letting most of the hetero ids on the planet stretch their wings and fly.
Mr. Fraser is tolerable, although not particularly funny when he isn’t undergoing something painful. Except when he’s a drug lord. That was funny, and gets the flick three of its six points.
The rest of the funny bits add up to another three points, although I was tempted to take one back because of the truly unpretty leading lady. Maybe they just made her up poorly, but there’s something on this lady’s lip that is just not flattering. Not including the slight moustache, which only makes whatever that other thing is that much more difficult to look at 8 feet tall on a screen for minutes at a time.
Befuddled
Brendan Fraser always gets to you. He could butchering Catcher in the Rye on the silver screen, but that smirk of his always makes you think of himas a good guy. And after seeing him in Bedazzled, you’ll still think of him as a swell guy, even though Harold Ramis, along with screenwriters Larry Gelbart and Peter Tolan, screw up a classic ’60s film.
Brendan Fraser stars as Elliot Richards, a man looking for friends in life. When he tries to win the heart of his crush, the Devil (Hurley) comes into the fray. In exchange for his soul, Elliot gets seven wishes. These all go horribly wrong as Elliot tries to get what he wants out of life, or at least what he thinks he wants.
The trailer basically plays out the majority of Elliot’s first wish — to become rich and powerful. As it turns out, Elliot becomes a Spanish-speaking Columbian drug lord. This is by far the funniest, and longest, of Fraser’s transformations. It is too bad that the trailer has been played so much; this transformation becomes tedious because the audience knows what is going to happen. And even worse, it is still the best sequence of the film. Everything else afterwards goes downhill.
The film is atrocious, yet it is hard to say bad things about the cast. As noted above, Fraser just seems to have a shield of invincibility that protects him from negativity. He has to play seven different personas of his character in this film, and while he acts them well, the writing is so atrocious that the only feature of the transformation to laugh at is the way Fraser looks, a novelty that wears off very quickly.
The beautiful Elizabeth Hurley plays the devil. The equally pretty Frances O’Connor plays the crush of Fraser’s nerdy Elliot Richards. And the funny-looking Orlando Jones plays Dan, a co-worker of Elliot’s. The problem with Bedazzled is everything I just described. Bedazzled looks well and good, but once you get into the film, it is practically unwatchable.
Fraser has tremendous talent, and is the only slightly shimmering point in the film, just like he was in Blast from the Past. Fraser does not say many funny things, though, which happens to be the focal point of any comedy that wants to be successful. Hurley really has not done much in her film career, aside from her role in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, which would have been poor had she not been starring with Mike Myers. Orlando Jones is an all-around funny guy, but he does not get a bunch of screen time, let alone funny lines when he is actually on camera.
This is a rather short, and bland, review because it reflects exactly what Bedazzled is: short and bland. The movie is so emotionless that I cannot even rant and rave about the "wrap it up in a nice, neat package" ending that Ramis employs.
As the title of this review implies, Bedazzled befuddled me.
I really liked this movie, It was fun and … Elizabeth Hurley WOW!!
This movie was fun, cool, and kept you guessing about what the poor guy was going to get himself into next.
Admittedly you knew what was going to happen towards the end, but that doesn’t change the fact that this movie was down right entertaining and is an excellent little family comedy. You will enjoy it.
Plus, Elizabeth Hurley. She is HOT in this movie. Not nasty .. just hot. I kept wanting Brendan Fraser to go after her instead of his DREAM girl.
Very cool
!
I like it when a character actually learns something. Nothing particularly deep, but still, I liked the message.
Definitely funny!
I was surprised, but both the main characters were good, and the movie had enough funny parts to keep me interested. Definitely worth seeing!
Could have been much better
Reviewers complain about the devil. We(3 men & 3 women thought she was great.
Great idea but just missed the mark. It’s a shame!!
Annoying at times.. but "drop your goo" Hurley will keep the boys entertained..
This one started out slowly. At one point you are thrown into a subtitled foreign film (for what seems like forever) - terribly annoying. I found myself wishing each "wish" would hurry up.
The end picked up a tad, and definitely improved.
