George & Kathy Lutz and Kathy's 3 children are moving into an elegant Long Island home. What they don't know is that 6 gruesome murders were committed there the year before - Ronald DeFeo Jr., the oldest son in the family, murdered his parents, his 2 brothers & 2 sisters by shooting them with a .35 caliber in November of 1974. No sooner are the Lutzes moved into the house than they begin seeing horrible things - the ghost of Jodie DeFeo, horribly disfigured bodies - and hearing ghostly voices throughout the house. George seems to notice it the most, and it isn't long before he becomes a danger to those around him. When the local priest, called in to bless the house, comes charging out in horror after being swarmed by flies, he issues a dire warning to Kathy - 'Leave that house'. But will they be able to escape before the house and its vengeful spirits take control of George - and make him into a deadly menace?Actors

Typical Genre with other movies styles
Ever seen the movies: "Thir13en Ghosts", "Friday the 13th", "Hide and Seek", "Blade", "Poltergeist" and "The Ring"?
This based on a true story flix about second family to reside in the Amityville, NY Estate seems brought back old scary feeling through its similiarities with those prior movies.
At one point, I thought this was a remake of "Hide and Seek" from how the youngest character introduces the audience to the story and how she is deeply connected to one to the little ghost, with a reverse on the father saving the family from the haunted house as in the movie, Poltergeist.
Another point, where the Ryan Reynolds discovers a enclosed corridor with the ghost of torched souls of Native American by the hand of Rev. Ketchem had the same style as "Thir13en Ghosts", but the story starts as a introduction of Friday the 13.
Despite the noticable similarities, this movie did scar for the one contrast in to other flims is that this movie was based on a true story of an actual horror in a small Long Island Town of Amityville, NY.
