Storyline
The above summaries do a great job of describing the dynamics of the love triangle that develops between the two pilots that fall in love with the same nurse. The movie also does a credible job of displaying the war from the American side with FDR and our side. It also shows the strategy of Japan as they plan for and execute all facets of the attack on Pearl Harbor. While all details may not be historically correct, I believe that they do the job well - all things considered. Historic events that were altered were probably done so in an attempt to also make this movie the entertaining epic that it is.

Spectacular! A passionate and profound movie-going experience!
This powerful and tragic tale of love and war clearly shows us how Ben Affleck is at the top of his game and how Josh Hartnett is quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s most-famed newcomers since Ewan McGreggor. ‘Pearl Harbor’ is both a passionate love story and a stunning war epic put together, with lots of riveting action and flag-waving heroism. Its Armageddon, Saving Private Ryan, and Titanic all rolled into one!

    American *******
    Love it?
    -Then you are stupid

    Great effects?
-You could support a minor poor country for that money it costed to make the FX.

    Acting?
-Josh Hartnett, Beckinsale and Affleck are no actors in this film. They are playing suffering heroes. They are dolls.

    Story?
    -Bad Japanese. Good Americans.

    Conclusions= embarrasing.

Gets worse the more you see it (Edited review)
Too many melodramatic scenes and historical innacuracies. The innacuracies I could have overlooked had some kind of effort been put into telling a great story but it was only meant to be a big blockbuster.

  8. edgar

Far too long. I’m glad I didn’t see it in the theatre.
Titanic was a much better melodrama.

  9. lemd

should have skipped the love story and just told the real story

  10. kmims

Very long.. Seems like they didn’t know where to begin or end.

    Definitely a girl movie!
Although I absolutely LOVED this movie, I have to say it was only because of the hot actors. The movie isn’t a documentary, it’s a love story. As a female I enjoy things like that, but the previews were a little misleading. I would recommend this movie, but know what it’s about before you see it, so you’re not dissapointed.

    pearl harbor war or love????
okay my thoughts on dis movie was that i thought it was goin to be alot better…i mean i thought they should’ve concentrated more on the war then the werid love story…ben afflacks charcter falls for this nurse…we all think he dies…then she falls for josh harnetts character…he dies….and the girl gets pregnant by josh harnett…and he dies…and ben stays wit the girl….werid or what

    another titanic?
this was a good movie but it had the "titanic" feel to it where there is a love story on such a tragedy
stuns and computer graphics are reallyu good, its hard to tell what is the real thing and what was done by computer

  15. Lilian

a few nice parts and a lot of mediocreness

    It had something for everyone.
I read the newspaper reviews that gave this movie 2 stars and I have to say that I disagree. I really liked this movie. I found the battle scenes to be powerful and moving. Yes, the love story was predictable but it lent some levity to the seriousness of the material. I think the actors were great. Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett are favorites of mine and Alec Baldwin’s portrayal was excellent. Now, FDR’s makeup could have been improved - I could tell exactly where they added the extra chin, etc. On the whole, I would definitely recommend this movie to everyone.

    Saw it, liked it.
What do the critics really know anyway.

The movie wasn’t nearly as bad as people are panning it to be.

The love story angle? Not nearly that bad.

The predictable lines and plot? Not nearly that bad.

The movie is too long? Not nearly that bad.

I am annoyed with Michael Bay’s forced dramatic moments, like Prez Roosevelt dropping manila folders when presented with the "bad news." It’s too much like Billy Bob Thorton dropping his coffee cup in Armageddon.

At least this movie was mercifully lighter on the "Kodak moment" shots (i.e. the little kid with the walkman looking up at the sky in Armageddon).

Damn the torpedoes, screw the critics, make your own decisions.

  18. Mullis

Bland love story, but spectacular battle sequences make it worth seeing.

    who was thinking what???
this movie was so bad, it made me want to scream out loud in the theatre. it’s like, no one knew when to end this mess, no one had the nerve to tell Mr. Bay to cut his losses and quite while he was way behind…instead of just letting this thing die, another 45 minutes is tacked on, because, afterall, "we need a love story". let me put it like this, aviod this movie, at all costs, it sucks…oh yeah, and the silly depection of the Japanese is, well, just that, silly, not to mention so damned lazy and lame! god, they should have paid everyone to stop before they began!!!!!!

Enjoyable film with breath taking effects
Another Blockbuster film that utilises the winning formula of “Titanic” (Love story tied in with a historical based fiction) This film surpasses Titanic in budget and in effects. I didn’t realise the film was 3 hours long till it finished.

  21. jean

The plot was predictable, but the action sequence made up for it…
Overall they did a really good job. I would’ve been happy without the love story, but I guess if you take that out all you have is a really expensive documentary (that’s not completely accurate…)

  22. isayev

The bomb scene is the only reddeeming quality.

  23. picm01

Good movie! Who cares if it’s historically accurate!
    Good lovestory.
    Excellent fight scenes.
Really good CG - only a couple bad scenes.

  24. gjutst

it was cool enough. i was happy with the respect they gave the veterans
